After Saudi Arabia defeated Argentina, now Japan has made another wonderful mess in the 2022 World Cup by beating powerhouse Germany 2-1.

For the second day in a row, an Asian underdog defeated a powerful opponent on the world stage.

Here are some of the most shocking results of the football world cup, including this year’s.

Japan: 2 – Germany: 1 (2022)

Another Asian country caused another shock at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as Japan beat Germany 2-1 just a day after Saudi Arabia shocked Argentina with the same result.

With goals from Asano and Doan in the second half, Japan recovered after Ilkay Gundogan scored one from the penalty spot in the first half.

Ritsu Doan scored Japan’s first goal in the 75th minute after Neuer only managed a Minamino shot straight into Doan’s goal-kick.

Asano easily plucked the long ball out of the air and ran towards the German goal, leaving their defense behind. He struck from close range, leaving Neuer helpless.

This is the first time Japan has beaten Germany in international football.

Saudi Arabia: 2 – Argentina: 1 (2022)

Pre-tournament favourites, Argentina, suffered a loss to a formidable Saudi Arabia team in their Group C match at the Lusail Stadium. Argentina led 1-0 at half-time, conceded two goals in the second half and couldn’t score despite coming tantalizingly close on several occasions.

After going undefeated for 36 international matches, Messi’s side succumbed to an unexpected 2-1 defeat.

A real World Cup shock that will go down in the annals!

South Korea:2 – 0:Germany (2018)

Some of the biggest upheaval at the World Cup came when the defending champions were beaten in the first round, and 2018 was no different.

Germany went into their final group game needing a win to advance. South Korea played for pride as they almost fell out.

But South Korea scored twice in extra time, keeping Germany from progressing beyond the first phase for the first time since 1938.

France:0 – 1:Senegal (2002)

The opening match of the 2002 World Cup promised to be interesting. However, football pundits and France failed to anticipate what the planned strategy Senegal had against the French attack.

El Hadji Diouf’s speed and Papa Bouba Diop’s goal in the 30th minute saw Senegal top the group late in the 90th minute.

France’s journey ended with another defeat and a draw. Senegal became the second African country to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Cameroon: 1st – 0: Argentina (1990)

Cameroon was the only Sub-Saharan African country to host the World Cup in Italy that year.

The Cameroonians grew in confidence as the game went uninjured against them by the defending Argentine champions at the time.

Midway through the second half, Francois Omam-Biyik took a free-kick and put his team ahead, which stayed until the final whistle.

However, despite the defeat, Argentina managed to advance to the final of this tournament against Germany.

North Korea:1 – 0:Italy (1966)

The Italians held together on the pitch thanks to midfielder Giacomo Bulgarelli. However, he suffered an injury halfway through the match, which reduced the Italian team to 10 as substitutions were not allowed at the time.

Seven minutes later, Pak Doo Ik scored a goal that was won by his team, who narrowly advanced to the World Cup, the match and knocked out the then two-time world champions.

West Germany: 3 – 2: Hungary (1954)

Hungary joined Switzerland’s World Cup as favorites and earned their fame by beating South Korea 9-0 and thrashing West Germany 8-3 in their previous matches.

The two teams met again in the final. Hungary scored two goals in the first half and seemed to be on track as in the first leg until the opposition scored two.

The match lasted until the 84th minute when Helmut Rahn scored the second goal. West Germany’s comeback against one of the best teams in football history was dubbed the “Miracle of Bern”.

USA:1 – 0:England (1950)

The post-World War II England team was one of the favorites to lift the trophy when they made their World Cup debut.

On the other hand, the US team consisted of part-time employees, including a dishwasher, a postman and a teacher. This band of thugs only practiced together one day before leaving for the World Cup in Brazil.

Team USA in an unbelievable feat defeated England 1-0, staging one of the greatest sensations in the history of football.
